Hotel Kanra Kyoto

Beautiful, great location, friendly helpful staff.

The only thing we didn't like is we couldn't stay longer.

Service was excellent and the room was incredibly spacious and comfortable

Although not too loud, you could hear some of the street noise and cars in the mornings

We loved this hotel. Felt like the price was wellworth the stay. The staff was kind, helpful, and accommodating, the rooms were very nice, spacious and clean. The area was also not too busy. It was a quick walk from the train station, you could walk to busier areas of Kyoto and the bus and subways were also close by. If you want to be in the middle of all of the chaos and business this probably isn’t the hotel for you but we really liked it, i would absolutely stay here again.

There could have been a bit more storage for clothes but it was fine

The facility, lobby and staff were exceptional. We had to ship a bag to our next hotel and they made the process so easy. Our room was lovely and the view was amazing. The lounge was welcoming and the art/crafts on display were beautiful, we even bought a few of the pieces.

We only have a small suggestion - having a luggage rack in the room would have been nice but didn’t take away from our positive experience at Kanra.

The room was spacious and clean. The beds and comforter were cozy. We booked a suite in the main building which has a big onsen outside on the balcony. My partner and I enjoyed taking soaks and the complimentary snacks and drinks at the lobby were fantastic. Hotel location is quiet and surrounded by commercial buildings. Far enough from the crowd but walkable to locations.

Since the big onsen was outside on the balcony, there were a lot of street noises and cars when you’re trying to relax and take a soak. Not the hotels fault but keep in mind it will be a little noisy during the morning/afternoon. Hence why we decided to take soaks very late at night. The suite we had did not have the Kyoto tower view, we were made aware that there is only one other suite that has that, so keep in mind when booking.

Beautiful room. Very clean. Great location. Easy to walk to the train Station. I would like to commend associate R Yoshimura who was outstanding in helping me recover a lost item. Very kind and professional. I hope her supervisor knows how awesome she is. A great asset to your wonderful hotel!

Nothing. Everything was great!

The property is so beautifully maintained. And the location is so great. The rooms were super clean and spacious and there were fresh towels for us daily. They had all the toiletries we needed if we forgot something.

Staff is really nice! we were impressed there was someone who spoke Spanish! Location is perfect, right next to metro and bus stations, and really close to Kyoto station

Pillows could be better

I loved this hotel. From the wooden bathtub, to the comfy beds, to the tatami floor, to the exceptional service from the moment you walk in, it was amazing! I loved everything about this hotel, they even provide you with unlimited free wine, sake, and beer.

I wish that the location of the property was located near more of the popular areas, however the hotel is next to train stations and bus stops.

Worst Value in Kyoto. Misleading Photos & Filthy Rooms

Paid $475/night for a room that was small, dirty, and nothing like the pictures. Bathroom smelled strongly of urine, with stained walls and chipped fixtures. Staff couldn’t communicate in English and offered to move us daily instead of fixing the problem. Breakfast was awful — tiny selection, left hungry every day, ended up eating at the convenience store after breakfast. The lobby looks nice, but that’s it. Do NOT waste your money here.

We booked a suite in the main building, and it was amazing. It was so spacious and very relaxing. We could see out into the city from the common area, which was very nice. And our bathroom- let's just say, I want a replica in my house. The facilities were clean, and all of the staff were extremely nice. I needed to dry clean something, and the concierge helped me. I got my clothes back on the same day. It was a little walk into the main areas of Kyoto, but you could easily take the metro to be closer or walk 15-20 minutes. It was very easy to get to the train station from this hotel.

Excellent staff service - so welcoming and helpful! We really appreciated all the staff - from the front desk, the cleaning crew, the breakfast and lounge staff. Great room and amenities. Bikes available to use, spa, laundry and luggage service.

Not as close to the attractions though close to Kyoto station. Wish there was a gym to complement the spa.

Hotel Kanra Kyoto exceeded every expectation - from its beautifully designed interiors and serene atmosphere, to the attention to detail in every corner. My room was spacious, elegant, and offered a perfect blend of traditional Japanese design with modern comfort.Beyond the room, the on-site Wagu restaurant was also really good - beautifully presented dishes and refined flavors. I also enjoyed drinks several times in the shared lounge area, which was both stylish and relaxing. The spa was another highlight, offering a serene space to unwind after long days exploring Kyoto.The service was outstanding. Every staff member I interacted with was warm, professional and went out of their way to assist. I felt genuinely welcomed and well cared for throughout my stay.This is more than just a hotel - it’s an experience. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto looking for comfort, aesthetics, and authentic hospitality.

It has a very relaxing lounge area with free drinks and a cute shop. The bedroom is amazing, with a very comfortable bed and great bathtub. The staff is super friendly and they make you feel really welcome. Overall had an amazing experience and will stay here on my next trip.

Thoughtful and serene design of my room, pleasing natural materials, well placed lighting (including the sculpture like bedside tables), the rectangular hiba wood tub, and a window that I could keep open. Even the hotel information loose leaf was well worth reading and well designed.Lobby amenities, including the gracious, seated check-in service, and the comfort of the lobby beverage bar.Top floor restaurant, with service, atmosphere and food, all excellent.

Fairly minor quibbles, but why no shelves for clothes in the room? Since there is a little sink in the toilet area, why no soap there?Why the slippery, loose carpet under the seating area of the lobby? Why no entry into the cafe when we arrived?
